Entry #6: 'YOU"

Are you into thriller-crime? Well this show is for you.

The American psychological thriller-crime drama You was created by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble. the television show based on Caroline Kepnes' best-selling books You and Hidden Bodies. The show centers on a young man who is dangerously endearing and highly obsessed and who takes extraordinary steps to get involved in the lives of those who have captured his attention. The series had its first release on Lifetime on September 9, 2018, however after receiving favorable reviews, it was soon added to Netflix as a Netflix Original.

The first season centers on Joe Goldberg, a New York City bookstore manager who falls in love with Guinevere Beck after meeting her and learning that she is an aspiring writer. Using social media and other forms of technology to keep tabs on her whereabouts and remove roadblocks to their romance, he fuels his unhealthy obsession.

In the second season, Joe Goldberg relocates to Los Angeles from New York in an effort to forget his past and embarks on a new life. Love Quinn, a passionate home cook, causes Joe to revert to his violent and obsessional behaviors from before. In order to escape the destiny of his previous romantic pursuits, Joe is making every effort to make his connection with Love thrive as he attempts to establish a new love in the City of Angels.

In the third season, Joe and Love—now parents—have relocated to the idyllic Northern California community of Madre Linda, where they are surrounded by affluent tech entrepreneurs, critical mother bloggers, and famous biohackers on Instagram. Joe is devoted to his new roles as a husband and father, but he worries about Love's dangerous impulsivity. Finally, there is his heart. Could the person he's been looking for all this time be a next-door neighbor? It's one thing to escape from a cage in a basement. But what about the confinement of an ideal marriage to a woman who is aware of your tricks? That'll make for a much trickier escape, I suppose.

  1. I've only seen a little bit of the show "You". However, It's fascinating to see how Joe's obsession with Beck and Love leads him down a dangerous path. I need to catch up with the show. I'm excited to find out what happens in the third season when I do, especially with Joe and Love becoming parents and moving to a new community. The show's exploration of the dark side of love and obsession is both thrilling and chilling. Good job!

  2. Hi Deasia. I am always on the hunt for a new television series, so thank you for sharing this one. Sounds kind of creepy that one of the man characters stalks his girlfriend, but I am sure it adds interest to this thriller. In the second season you mention that Joe seeks to start a new Life In Los Angeles, but hint that he might be going back to his stalking ways. Does He? Then it sounds like the third season indicates that Joe is still displaying his old self.
